New telescope for Solar Observing and eclipse photography!
On February 19, 2025, I received the TS-Optics PhotoLine 80 APO telescope. This high-quality apochromatic refractor, paired with a Herschel Wedge, is perfect for solar observing in white light. To capture the stunning views, I also equipped myself with the necessary adapters to connect my Canon EOS 80D and Canon EOS R cameras to the telescope.
First Light: February 23, 2025
My first tests with the new setup took place on February 23, 2025. The visual observation of the sunspots was nothing short of impressive. I was able to see seven distinct groups of sunspots, each teeming with detail. The clarity and sharpness provided by the TS-Optics PhotoLine 80 APO, combined with the Herschel Wedge, made for an unforgettable experience. I managed to capture my first image using the Canon EOS 80D, and the results were promising.

Upcoming Solar Eclipses
One of the primary reasons for acquiring this telescope was to observe and photograph solar eclipses. I am eagerly anticipating the partial solar eclipse on March 29, 2025, and the total solar eclipse in Spain on August 12, 2025. With the TS-Optics PhotoLine 80 APO and my Canon cameras, I am confident that I will be able to capture these celestial events in all their glory.
Deep-Sky Observations
In addition to solar observations, I plan to use the telescope for deep-sky observations. Under a dark sky, with the aid of UHC, O-III, or H-beta filters, I look forward to exploring the wonders of the universe. The large field of view offered by the TS-Optics PhotoLine 80 APO will allow me to see some spectacular sights, from nebulae to star clusters.
