Noctilucent clouds

On June 28, we witnessed an impressive display of noctilucent clouds in Belgium. The photos were taken from the bedroom window.

Noctilucent clouds are the highest clouds in Earth’s atmosphere, forming at altitudes of around 75 to 85 kilometers. They are composed of tiny ice crystals and are typically visible during the summer months at latitudes between 50° and 70° north and south.

These clouds are unique because they are visible only during astronomical twilight, when the sun is below the horizon but still illuminates these high-altitude clouds.
